While walking my children to school this morning, God surprised us with a sign of encouragement.
Life as of late has been extraordinarily heavy, and as our footsteps carried us closer to the beginning of our day, we were startled by a cry from the sky. This beautiful dove swooped low over our heads, wings outstretched like the Dove of the Holy Spirit window in St. Peter’s Basilica. It called again to us. I watched as it soared back up and landed on the top of a nearby power pole, peering at us as if to say “Well?”
The Holy Spirit has come in power and authority.
He rested upon the top of the pole, in a position of dominion or rule (in a “high place”). Power, phone, and internet — power and communication — feed through this pole to all of us earth-bound dwellers.
No matter what you’re facing, no matter what hurdle you have to climb over, no matter what hardship you must bear, today remember: The Holy Spirit has come in power and authority. Nothing escapes His notice. He sees you. He hears your prayers. He is with you. Do you hear Him calling?
