Do you ever see unusual places in your dreams?
I have a very vivid dream life, the product of a gift of dreams from the Lord and an artistic subconscious. I frequently receive inspiration from my dreams, guidance, or advance notice/warning of events. As it has increased (having 2-3 separate dreams a night, and I will even dream during naps!), it has prompted a lot of study of the Word and daily prayer.
Sometimes, I see things like the charcoal artwork above; it appeared to me in a dream and upon waking, I was filled with urgency to get it down on paper. I don’t yet know what it means, but every time I look at the drawing, I feel the same weight of significance.
When He is ready, He will tell me what it means.
This is an important thing to remember if you are perplexed by dreams you are having: interpretation can come as a gift (some people are especially anointed for interpretation, like Joseph in the book of Genesis), but it can also be cultivated as you seek the Lord in the secret place. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know.” He longs to speak with us!
Sometimes, the places I see are real. I was stunned the first time I encountered these structures while on a hike; I had dreamt of them five years prior. When I dream of things I later encounter, I tend to take it as a sign from the Lord that I’m right where I should be. As confirmation that none of what is going on in my life has taken Him by surprise.
And that’s a beautiful picture of the God who cares for us, so much, that He reveals the details of the next part of the journey — breadcrumbs for us to follow on our way Home.
