This is a record of a dream I had on 26 February 2024; I’m posting it strictly for Spirit-filled Believers and those called to be intercessors in the Church to pray into. “For we know in part and we prophesy in part” (1 Corinthians 13:9). I include my interpretation in the footnotes, such as they are. The Lord frequently revisits past dreams with me during my prayer time for months and sometimes years afterward; the revelation He brings is often ongoing.
I was walking next to a rocky riverbank and looking at the life in what was left of the water. I saw four small whales1 stranded on the opposite shore, beached near a cliff. I crossed the relatively dry riverbed to get to them; they had managed to find puddles to stay alive in, but they were in bad shape. There was a mother and baby, and two young juveniles. They were laying near this giant mound of pink Himalayan salt2. A woman was there with them and we made a plan to move the whales to a better place with more water. The woman was particularly ineffectual — she hemmed and hawed about moving the whales and kept insisting to me that they were too heavy to move ourselves3, but yet she would not go find more people. I looked at her sternly and grabbed up two of the whales in my arms and carried them around the corner of the cliff4 to the next riverbed — this one completely dry5. Once they were safely moved, I repeated the maneuver with the others, and the woman helped a little with the mother whale. The entire area over top of us was covered with a warehouse-like awning6.
We set the whales down together and I made certain they were wet before consulting with the woman as to the fastest way to deep water. She could not decide7, and it took so long I grabbed a large jug and began carrying water to this tub-like box further down the path/dry riverbed, out from under the awning. When I got enough water in, I filled the jug with water that had a lot of the pink salt in it; when I dumped it into the tub, it turned the water red8. I looked up from the task to see I was actually on a peninsula, and a large, flowing river was not too far away. There was a big train bridge that crossed it, with many cement pylons planted in the water.
I returned to the place where the whales were with the woman, and asked if the whales would be blocked by the pylons9, and she replied, “We’ll find out.” We hurried to grab the whales, but the mother whale had died10. The others were close to death as well, so we gathered them up and carried them to the tub of saltwater I had prepared11. The three remaining whales revived a little, just enough I could see them breathing again. Across from the tub, on the opposite side of the peninsula there were large rocks with deeper pools of water that led to the river. We fished the whales out of the tub and deposited them in the pools, where they began floating and moving gracefully toward the river.
The Lord indicated to me the whales represent major moves of prophetic revival in the United States.
While salt can be purifying in small amounts, in larger quantities, it acts as a dessicant. When spread in heavy loads, it creates long-term barrenness. What has caused barrenness in the expression of the supernatural and prophetic Gifts in the Church?
How many times have we encountered this attitude from the lukewarm or those not walking in the Gifts of the Spirit? We should strive always to answer how the prophet Samuel did as a child (“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening,” 1 Samuel 3:10) or as Isaiah does (“Here I am, Lord, send me,” Isaiah 6:8)
The cliff represents the edge of destruction, where natural resources run out, or a place of decision. I believe this is indicative of the season we are currently in; many others have prophesied significant upheaval and the ‘changing of the guard’ for this season we are entering. Many Churches find themselves in the place of decision — should they continue as they have been, or should they embrace the new wineskin?
Dry riverbeds… if a river that is flowing indicates the flow of the Spirit, a dry riverbed implies the absence of the flow of the Spirit of God. Also: grieving the Spirit, or actively quenching the Spirit. When we consider the above points about prophetic ministry in the Church, this is yet another marker. The Bible clearly delineates the Lord’s plan for His Church, yet how many are doing so?
Coverings of this nature imply to me the things we let get in between us and God. What sort of covering is over the Church right now? Are we truly allowing ourselves to approach the Throne, or are we stopping just short of it, afraid and wanting to hold back the deep things of our hearts? This also seems particularly pertinent in light of the whales possibly representing prophetic ministry, or prophetic revival in the Church. Many services only give lip service to the Gifts, saying they are open to their expression and then simultaneously schedule services in a way that prevents their expression, effectively “putting a lid on it.”
Rather than just flow in the Spirit, many attempt to justify, rationalize, and legalize through religion all the ways they are not following the leading of the Lord.
Salt in the proper quantities is a purifying agent. The water turning red seemed to mirror how Jesus’ blood that was shed for us, cleansed us. I believe this indicates the prophetic (possibly also those bearing prophetic gifts) will undergo a cleansing and subsequent revival as they come through this period of transition from the old model (barrenness from too much ‘salt’) into the new model (the open river of the manifest presence of the Lord). This transition period is also exemplified by the travel from the drying up river, to the dry riverbed (a rocky transition? Bumpy shifts from old to new?), to the tub structure (purifying, cleansing, reviving), to the big river (operating seamlessly in the flow of the Spirit).
I believe this is a caution to not let man-made structures get in the way of the flow of the Spirit (the river) and what God wants to do with revival and prophetic ministry (the whales). We must remember the words of Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord build the house, its builders labor in vain.” We must be careful and diligent in seeking the Lord for every step, and then do the things He requires without delay (remember, delayed obedience is still disobedience).
Some outbreaks of revival and prophetic ministry will not survive the upheaval, or may be shut down by the failure of man to act. There was a strong sense of urgency throughout the entire dream, and the woman’s double-minded attitude cost precious time in a life or death situation. I feel a strong warning here that we need to be cognizant of and ruthless in identifying places where we are double-minded, and then crucifying those thoughts and attitudes, because that’s part of the enemy’s plan to delay God’s plan.
This tells me that the outcome of the outpouring/revival will not be stopped, but that it is going to take people willing to act on the word of the Lord and act decisively to see it through. 1 Corinthians 3:9 tells us “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” Therefore, we must be prepared to drop the things we are holding onto, drop our preconceived notions about how it would look and proceed, and just get to business. We have to prioritize God’s plans in this hour over our own.
